What is X's Original Content Rewards programme?
Original Content Rewards is how X now pays creators: from qualified impressions on content they made themselves. X's Creators account announced it on 7 August 2026 (8 August in India) and, the same day, stopped accepting new enrolments in Revenue Sharing, the programme it replaces. TechCrunch reported the change on 8 August 2026.
The dates that matter, from X's announcement:
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| 7 Aug 2026 | Original Content Rewards announced; Revenue Sharing closed to new enrolments |
| 28 Aug 2026 | First payout under the new programme |
| 7 Sep 2026 | Last day existing Revenue Sharing members earn under the old programme |
| 8 Sep 2026 | X starts rolling out access for existing Revenue Sharing members to apply |
| 25 Sep 2026 | First payment for those members, once they enrol |
Payouts come every two weeks while your account and posts meet the rules. X's announcement gives no rate per impression, so this post makes no estimate of what you would earn. What the rules do tell you is what X wants more of, and that is useful whether or not you ever apply.
Who is eligible for X Original Content Rewards?
You can apply once you meet every requirement in X's announcement, through Creator Studio, under Original Content Rewards:
| Requirement | What X's announcement says (checked 20 Oct 2026) |
|---|---|
| Age | 18 years or older |
| Location | Live in a country where the programme is available |
| Account | A Personal or Business account in good standing, with no history of repeatedly violating X's Monetization Standards or Terms of Service |
| Subscription | X Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business (Premium Basic is not on this list) |
| Followers | At least 500 verified followers |
| Impressions | At least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the last 90 days; impressions on replies are excluded |
| Content | Regularly post original content |
X says it reviews applications within 3 business days. If you are turned down you get one appeal, and after a failed appeal you can reapply in 90 days. Accounts whose monetisation is paused for an earlier policy violation cannot enrol.
Once you are in, you are paid on qualified impressions: unique impressions from Premium subscribers (Premium Basic, Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business) on the Home Timeline, where at least half the post is visible. Paid, promoted, artificially generated and fraudulent impressions don't count.
The impressions bar is the hard part. 500,000 in 90 days averages about 5,556 a day (500,000 divided by 90), from verified users only, with replies left out. A founder who posts for a narrow set of buyers may never reach it, and that is fine: in our view, the posts that would qualify are the same posts that make buyers trust you.
What counts as original content on X?
X defines original content as content you personally create that reflects your own voice, perspective, expertise or creativity. Its announcement lists these examples:
- original writing, threads, Articles, reporting or analysis;
- photos or videos you created;
- memes, graphics, illustrations and other work you designed;
- commentary, reactions or insights that add meaningful perspective to existing conversations;
- content that meaningfully transforms existing material through original context, analysis, narration, humour or creative editing.
The same announcement says a post is ineligible if it:
- is copied or substantially reproduced from another creator, or downloaded and re-uploaded when you are not the author;
- was created or posted using automated means;
- is focused only on monetisation coaching, monetisation discussion or maximising payouts;
- has a helpful Community Note;
- contains disinformation or misleading content.
Light edits don't make someone else's work yours. X says crops, filters, borders, watermarks, speed changes or simple text overlays generally don't count as meaningful transformation on their own. Its test before posting is one question: "Would this content still be valuable without my contribution?" If the answer is yes, add more of your own. If you only want to share someone's post, X says to use a repost.
Why did X switch to paying for originality?
X's stated reason is that Revenue Sharing's incentives no longer matched what it wanted. Allegra Jacchia of X wrote on 7 August 2026 that Revenue Sharing "had reached a point where its incentives were misaligned", and that creators should focus on bringing net new content to the platform. TechCrunch described the launch as following repeated attempts to reform Revenue Sharing:
- April 2026. Nikita Bier, then X's head of product, said all aggregators had their payouts reduced to 60% that cycle, with a further 20% reduction due the next cycle (TechCrunch, 12 April 2026).
- July 2026. Bier said X's newest Grok model detects duplicated content at three times the rate of the previous version, and that disguised copies send the monetised impressions to the original uploader (TechCrunch, 16 July 2026).
- August 2026. Original Content Rewards made regularly posting original content a condition of entry.
For a B2B founder, this points your X posts toward material you already have and an aggregator doesn't: numbers from your own business, decisions you made and expertise from doing the work. One honest chart from your own data fits X's definition of original content. Ten reposted news stories with captions that only describe them do not.
A weekly X posting plan built on your own data
Five original posts a week, each built on something only you have, plus a few replies a day. This is our suggested plan, not X's:
| Day | Post | Where the material comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | One number from your business and what it means | Your CRM, product analytics, support inbox or invoices |
| Tuesday | Commentary on a post your buyers are discussing, with your own data or experience added | Your feed and your notes |
| Wednesday | A short how-to from your own process | A checklist or document your team uses |
| Thursday | A thread or an X Article with analysis | Something you measured, tested or compared |
| Friday | A photo or screen recording you made | Your product, whiteboard or weekly dashboard |
Keep a running note of numbers and decisions during the week, so Monday's post takes ten minutes. Spend 15 minutes a day replying to people in your niche as well. Impressions on replies don't count toward the 500,000 threshold, but replying is still how you meet the people who will read your posts. Our guide to growing on X as a B2B founder covers replies, and our 32 X post and reply templates give you structures to start from.
For most founders the payout is the smaller prize; the buyers who read your analysis are the bigger one. Siela's AI SDR can find people on X by what their bio says, or by who posts about or engages with the keywords and competitors you track, and save them as leads.
Example post outlines for B2B founders
We wrote these examples for this guide. Replace everything in square brackets with your own material, and never invent the numbers.
- Example 1: the number. We read [number] of our [support tickets or sales calls] from [period]. [Share] mentioned [problem]. We changed [one thing]. After [weeks]: [result, good or bad].
- Example 2: commentary with your data. Quote a post claiming [common belief in your industry]. Add: our numbers say [your figure, with the sample size]. Then give two reasons you think the difference exists.
- Example 3: the teardown thread. [Company or category] changed [pricing or onboarding] this month. Post 1: what changed. Post 2: who it helps. Post 3: what we would copy. Post 4: what we would not, and why.
- Example 4: the decision. We said no to [customer request] [number] times this quarter. Here is the rule we use, and the one time we broke it.
- Example 5: the screen recording. A 60-second video of you walking through [a report you check every Monday], with one sentence on why each number matters.
Each outline leads with what you add, which is the test X's guidelines describe. None of them asks people to like, reply or follow. X's rules for staying in the programme bar soliciting engagement, which it defines as repeatedly instructing users to like, reply, bookmark, follow or repost.
What to avoid if you want X to pay you
Four habits put payouts at risk under X's announcement, and a fifth wastes your time:
- Automation in the posts themselves. X lists content created or posted using automated means as ineligible, and the announcement does not define automated means. If payouts matter to you, write and post the posts you want counted yourself.
- Bought or artificial engagement. X's rules bar automated tools, bots or any software used to artificially generate likes, follows, views, comments or shares.
- Engagement bait. The announcement bars repeatedly asking people to like, reply, bookmark, follow or repost. In July, before this programme, TechCrunch reported that X would remove accounts from its creator programme after three or more instances of soliciting engagement or follows.
- Repackaged content. Copies, re-uploads and lightly edited versions of other people's work are ineligible. In July, Bier said disguised copies send the monetised impressions to the original uploader.
- Chasing the threshold. Posts focused only on monetisation or maximising payouts are ineligible. If you never reach 500,000 impressions, the five original posts a week still do their real job.
Read the full announcement and X's Monetization Standards before you apply, since the programme's terms can change. Jacchia said X will keep refining the programme and raising the bar over time.
Frequently asked questions
What are the requirements for X Original Content Rewards?
You must be 18 or older, live where the programme is available, and have a Personal or Business account in good standing. You also need X Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business, at least 500 verified followers, 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the last 90 days, excluding replies, and a habit of posting original content.
Does X Premium Basic qualify for Original Content Rewards?
Not for applying. X's announcement lists X Premium, Premium+ and Premium Business as the subscriptions you need to apply and stay eligible. Premium Basic subscribers do count as viewers: qualified impressions are unique Home Timeline impressions from Premium Basic, Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business users, where at least half the post is visible.
How much does X pay per impression for original content?
X has not published a rate. Its August 2026 announcement says eligible creators earn money from qualified impressions on their original content, with payouts every two weeks, but it gives no figure per impression or per thousand impressions. Treat any per-impression number you see elsewhere as someone's estimate.
Do replies count toward X Original Content Rewards?
Not toward eligibility. X's threshold of 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in 90 days excludes impressions on replies. Once you are in, payouts come from qualified impressions on original content, and the announcement does not say whether replies earn. Commentary that adds meaningful perspective does count as original content.
Can you use AI or scheduling tools for X Original Content Rewards?
X lists content created or posted using automated means as ineligible, and its announcement does not define automated means. It also bars tools that artificially generate likes, follows, views, comments or shares. If payouts matter to you, write and post the posts you want counted yourself.
When did X replace Revenue Sharing with Original Content Rewards?
X stopped accepting new Revenue Sharing enrolments when it announced Original Content Rewards on 7 August 2026. Existing members kept earning under Revenue Sharing through 7 September 2026, and X began letting them apply to the new programme from 8 September. The first payout under Original Content Rewards was scheduled for 28 August 2026.
